With the launch of the new generation of medium and heavy-duty trucks, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle has entered a new phase of “five platforms for shared online sales,” becoming the domestic truck manufacturer with the most comprehensive and diverse product line of medium and heavy-duty trucks.

As the leading medium-duty truck in the market, the Dongfeng Tianjin has been a trusted classic for 11 years since its launch in 2007. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd., jointly invested by Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. and Volvo Group, was officially established and put into operation in Shiyan, Hubei.

On May 7 of the same year, the Dongfeng Tianlong Qihang Edition was launched in Guangzhou.

Dongfeng Group and Volvo Group signed a strategic alliance agreement, and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. was established on July 1 of the same year.

On April 20 of the same year, Dongfeng Tianlong flagship released. This is Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle’s first truly high-end long-distance tractor, positioned higher than the standard Tianlong. It features a brand-new high-roof double-bed cab, a high-horsepower engine, and advanced chassis technology, designed to compete with imported heavy-duty trucks and representing Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle’s highest manufacturing standards.

Dongfeng Tianjin was launched into the market. As an extension of the Tianlong platform, the Tianjin is a medium-duty truck platform developed for the short- and medium-haul transport market. It fills the gap in the medium-duty truck market left by the retirement of the EQ140, forming a “twin star” combination with the Tianlong, and together they have dominated the Chinese medium and heavy-duty truck market for over a decade.

Dongfeng Tianlong and Hercules were launched on the market. This product marks a milestone in the development of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles. Dongfeng collaborated with international giants such as Nissan Diesel and Volvo, integrating global resources to create a high-end heavy-duty truck platform. The Tianlong series covers a wide range of applications, including tractors, trucks, and engineering vehicles. Its success has established Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles as a leading heavy-duty truck brand in China and is now exported to overseas markets.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Nissan Motor Corporation jointly established Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company was established and became the medium and heavy-duty truck division of Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation Truck Company was established.

China Second Automobile Manufacture (Second Automobile Factory) was renamed Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

The EQ153 flat-head diesel truck was launched on the market.This was Dongfeng’s first flat-head diesel truck produced after introducing Nissan Diesel technology from Japan. With a load capacity of 8 tons, it was nicknamed the “Eight Flat Diesel.” Its introduction marked the transition of Dongfeng trucks from the era of long-head gasoline trucks to flat-head diesel trucks. Its significant improvements in driving comfort, safety, and technological content set the pace for domestic truck upgrades.

It was China’s first fully domestically designed 5-ton medium-duty civilian truck, ending China’s long-standing reliance on imported trucks. The EQ140 and its subsequent EQ140-1 (improved version) became the undisputed workhorses of China’s road transport in the 1980s and 1990s, earning them the nickname “meritorious vehicles” that underpinned China’s economic growth during the early years of reform and opening up.

It was the first basic model produced by the Second Automobile Manufacture (the predecessor of Dongfeng Motor Corporation), a 2.5-ton military off-road truck. During the 1979 self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, it was awarded the title of “Heroic Vehicle” for its durability and effectiveness in rescuing vehicles, establishing the Dongfeng brand’s reputation for reliability.
